2023 Canton Fair scale hit a record high

May 03, 2023

China Import and Export Commodity Fair, also known as Canton Fair, was founded in the spring of 1957. It is held in Guangzhou every spring and autumn. It is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of Guangdong Province, and hosted by China Foreign Trade Center. It is a comprehensive international trade event with the longest history, the largest scale, the most comprehensive variety of commodities, the largest number of buyers, the widest distribution of countries and regions, the best trading effect and the best reputation in China.

Recently, the 133rd Canton Fair was officially held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. This offline exhibition was held in three phases, from April 15th to May 5th, lasting for 20 days. This is the first offline exhibition after the Canton Fair fully liberalized the policy, the offline exhibitors increased from 25,000 to 35,000, more than 9,000 new exhibitors, and about 40,000 online exhibitors. For the first time, the import fair will be held in all three phases, a string of figures showing that the scale of the Canton Fair has reached a record high.

On the first day of the opening, the pavilions were crowded and the negotiation scene was extremely hot. The Canton Fair actively invited buyers from countries along the Belt and Road to participate in the fair. The number and quality of buyers from countries along the Belt and Road have steadily increased, accounting for nearly half of the total number of participants.

As Chu Shijia, deputy Director and secretary general of the Canton Fair and director of China Foreign Trade Center, said at the promotion meeting, "This is a Canton Fair reunited after a long absence". Three years after the epidemic finally ushered in the policy of opening up. Chinese and foreign businessmen can not only continue the "screen to screen" contact for the past three years, but also restart "face to face" negotiations to share opportunities.
